"Bad Photos"

This week I actually decided to go with a theme: ballet.

I asked Sophie to be my model again and we were lucky enough to have a few minutes in between classes to take some photos! All of these shots are very different than what I'm used to taking, but I actually like them quite a bit. Enjoy!

I think that a "bad" photo can definitely still be an artistic photo. By breaking the rules and completely changing the way that you take photos you have to get really creative. This assignment made me do that, and I think that I was able to create images that I wouldn't have been able to before. If I had taken some of these exact same shots with a different intention in mind, I wouldn't have liked them. Being artistic means that sometimes you do have to break rules and make things unique and your own. If photos always follow the rules, they aren't always as exciting.

Ever since I finished my Photography class I have been going back and editing some photos that I had originally not liked. It amazes me how much I like the photos every time after I finish! So, I am now going to post a few of these photos. :)

Photoshoot with Berklee :)

This week I had to take portraits for Digital Photography. :) I decided to take them of my best friend, Berklee. The photo shoot was SO much fun! I took a ton of photos and I tried to narrow it down to my top 5 favorites, but I honestly couldn't! So here is what I could narrow it down to:



I think this is one of the best from the photo shoot because Berklee just looks happy. As well, I like how she looks very comfortable.



This is one of the best because it's interesting to look at. The angle makes the light shine on her in a different kind of way and I really like the effect.



I really like this photo because it seems like I just caught her playing around. To me it feels as if she was having tons of fun just climbing around in a tree. :)



This photo is one of the best because she is facing to the side and not looking right at the camera which gives it a cool effect.



First of all, I must say I love this photo. I really like that she looks so comfortable laying there. I also like that only Berklee's eyes and the flower are in color, because it draws your eye into the photo. :)



I think this photo is one of the best because when I took the photo Berklee wasn't paying attention to me at all, so she looks very natural.



This photo is definitely my absolute favorite from the entire photo shoot. I just love it! I love that she is just so happy. I had my friend, Nikki, stand behind me and talk to Berklee, which made her laugh. I love the fact that she isn't looking at the camera and that she is laughing, it really shows how happy she was. Every time I look at this photo it makes me smile. :)



I think this photo is one of the best because it is so simple. I like that Berklee isn't smiling with her teeth, but that she is smiling. I think that it gives it the feeling that she is just happy with sitting there.



This photo is one of the best because Berklee is a shadow. I really like this photo in black and white, because the colors can't lead your eye away from Berklee. I also like that she is leaning against the railing in this. I think that it makes her look very relaxed. :)



I like this photo because of the lighting. I really like that there is plenty of light on the right side of her face, but that because the sun was shining on the left side it gives shadows on the right. :)



This photo is one of the best because it looks very natural. Berklee looks like she is just lounging around on the grass. As well, I like the shadows from the trees on the grass. I think it really adds to the photo.

Taking these portraits of Berklee made me realize that portraits can come in many different ways. Also, I found that most of the photos looked the best one I had Berklee just be herself and I didn't ask her to do anything special. :)

Framing, Lines, Patterns, and Texture :)

So we were only supposed to upload eight photos for this assignment (two for each kind of photo), but I could not decide which photos to post...I hope you enjoy my billions of photos. ;)

FRAMING



This is my friend a photo of my dear friend, Berklee. I personally love this photo. I think it looks really cool (especially since I'm a dancer!) This is bviously a good example of framing because the door frames her.



This is a door that I found while my dad drove me around. I think it's a good example of framing, because the door frames the windows.



This is another door that I found, and I think this one is a good example of framing because the arch over the door frames the door.



This is a photo of some scaffolding that I found by my dance studio. This is a good example of framing because the scaffolding frames the wall and shadows. This also, shows Leading Lines because the lines of the wall are leading you towards the scaffolding.



This is a photo that I took of a building that had mirror-like walls on the outside. I think it's a good example of Framing because the breaks in the mirrors frame the sky that is being reflected. I also think that this photo is a good example of Leading Line since it leads your eye up to the top part of the sky where it is not being reflected.

LEADING LINES



This is my friend, Emma. Can I just say I LOVE this photo. I tried editing it many different ways, but I felt like this way showed Leading Lines the best. This is because the lines of the wall lead towards Emma. As well, the thing she is sitting on leads your eye towards her.



This is a photo of my friend, Nikki. Again, I love this photo. I love that it is so simple. The lines of the wall lead right towards Nikki and because she is looking away from the camera it makes your eye keep going.



While my dad was driving me around we came up with the idea of taking photos up the sides of the buildings, and I think that this photo definitely shows Leading Line because the gap leads your eye right to the sky.



I think this photo demonstrates Leading Line because the wall leads you towards the things sticking out, then those lead you up even farther towards the sky.



I really like how in this photo the Leading Line is not as obvious. The rock is bumpy and you can see the texture (Hey! Two in one!), but it still leads your eye up.

PATTERN



This is a photo of a fence, and I think it's a good example of Pattern because the fence is all the same but then the leaf breaks it up.



This is a good example of Pattern because even though the rocks are not all the same, they are still making a kind of pattern.



Again, this is the building with the mirror-like walls on the outside. This photo is a good example of pattern because there are consistent breaks in the mirrors. As well, this is a good example of framing because the siding is framing the sky being reflected.

TEXTURE



This is a photo of a fence. It's a good example of Texture because when you look at it you can really see the detail and you can imagine how it would feel if you were to touch it.



This photo is of my friend, Nikki's, hands. I really like the Texture in this photo because you can see the ridges on the wall and imagine what it feels like. Also, you can see the detail in her hands and her nails, and again you can imagine what they would feel like.
